Celebrate 85 years in true Savannah style! Join us for a low country boil at Old Fort Jackson, Savannah’s oldest brick fortification that sits on the picturesque Savannah River. Historic Landmark District

Savannah’s National Historic Landmark District is the nation’s largest Urban Historic Landmark district. Within this historic 2.5 square miles are 22 squares and over 1600 historically and architecturally significant structures. Homes date from the mid to late 18th century all the way to modern day. They include a range of both large and small houses as well as duplexes and row houses in a variety of architectural styles including Romanesque, Victorian, Italianate and Romantic Revival among others.

Featured in Southern Living, floral designer Anissa Manzo will present a step by step demonstration on creating centerpieces that will wow your next dinner guests. Anissa is the owner of Urban Poppy, a Savannah staple for beautiful floral arrangements and creative decor. After Anissa’s presentation, you will enjoy a lunch of innovative Southern cuisine from Vic’s on the River.

The Siege of Savannah in 1779 is considered one of the bloodiest battles in the fight for American independence. Follow your guide from the Coastal Heritage Society as you learn about the British forces that fortified and captured the colonial city of Savannah and the heroes who failed to win her back.

The Women of Christ Church Anglican invite you to join us at the Whitefield Center for homemade goodies and fellowship to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the Savannah Tour of Homes & Gardens. Then join us at neighboring Christ Church Anglican (CCA) for a worship service and a special surprise from CCA’s renowned music ministry. Transportation to and from the Marshall House is complimentary. A shuttle will depart from the Marshall House at 123 E. Broughton Street at 5:00 pm and will return to the Marshall House at approximately 7:00 pm.

Step back into 19th century and early 20th century Savannah. Our trolleys will take you to three historic museums and will feature guided tours along with heavy hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. At the 1820 Isaiah Davenport House, you will learn the social graces and importance of Madeira wine tradition of the period. At the 1847 Andrew Low House, you will see one of John Norris’ finest examples of Regency style domestic architecture. There you will learn about Savannah society during the 19th century and hear about Low’s most famous guests, such as Robert E. Lee. At the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home, you will be treated to one of the few museum houses in the country that is restored to the Depression era and receive a guided tour that reveals the quiet domestic life of the young Flannery and her family.

Join the Bonaventure Historical Society for a guided walking tour of Bonaventure Cemetery, highlighting the beautiful flora and a few of the residents of Savannah’s famous necropolis. Bonaventure Cemetery has been named by CNNtravel.com as the second most beautiful cemetery in the United States and the fifth most beautiful in the world. Stroll among centuries-old azaleas, camellias and moss-draped live oaks, learning about their history and the history of Savannah’s most beautiful garden-style cemetery. Round-trip transportation from downtown is included; total time for the event is 2 – 2.5 hours. Participants should be prepared to walk approximately 1 mile on unpaved, level roadways through the cemetery.

Ardsley Park – Chatham Crescent

Ardsley Park-Chatham Crescent is a large residential area developed (c. 1910) as two adjacent planned subdivisions and built to accommodate the automobile. Ardsley Park showcases broad streets with lush tree canopies and landscaped squares. Chatham Crescent has one of the only Beaux-Arts inspired ‘City Beautiful’ plans in Georgia, with a grand mall, crescent shaped avenues, and small circular parks. The district is almost completely residential and contains larger homes with expansive lawns in a variety of revival and eclectic styles which were popular in the early 20th century. Home and Garden Tours are self-guided with a different group of six to eight sites featured each of the four days. You may visit these selected sites in any order during a three-hour period at your own pace. The homes vary in age, size, and style; they may have high-stooped entries with steep steps to climb. Most are NOT handicapped accessible. We regret that animals and service animals cannot be admitted into the homes. Please wear appropriate walking shoes for your comfort and safety and to protect the integrity of the homes.

Sit back and enjoy the ride through Savannah’s majestic historic district while noted Savannah historians narrate this rolling seminar focusing on the beauty and history of Savannah’s unique squares and parks. Included in the event will be information on the cultural and artistic significance of Savannah’s monuments and public art. This 90-minute tour may include some walking, so remember to wear appropriate footwear!
